What are you going to do after high school?

Most students answer that one with a shrug or a guess.

Kate Milner, The Assessment Lady

I'm Kate Milner, and I've spent more than ten years helping students trade that shrug for a direction. I'm a career and strengths coach, a Career Direct consultant since 2015, and a mom of five boys, so I've had this conversation at my own kitchen table plenty.

The Career Direct assessment helps your student put language to their personality, interests, skills, and values. Then we sit down together, twice, and connect it all to careers, college majors, and the steps ahead.

It's not my job to choose their future. It's my job to help them see their design and learn how to aim.

What are you going to do after high school?

Most students answer that one with a shrug or a guess. The Career Direct Assessment gives them something better. It's an online assessment that helps your student put language to their personality, interests, skills, and values. Then we sit down together, twice, and figure out what it all means for the road ahead.

It's not my job to tell your student what to do with the rest of their life. My job is to help them discover their design and learn how to aim.

What's included

$300
  • The Career Direct assessment, taken online at home
  • Two 2-hour consultations with me, in person (Twin Cities) or on Zoom
  • A parent or another adult who knows your student well, right there with us
  • Six to eight careers that fit your student's design, to start exploring
  • The full Career Direct report, handed over after our second meeting

How it works

  1. 1

    Sign up and pay

  2. 2

    Your student takes the assessment

  3. 3

You get a link to book our first meeting

  4. 4

    We meet twice

The two meetings are usually about a week apart. Some families meet within a day or two, others need a little longer. We'll find what works.

Who it's for

Ages 15 to 18High schoolers

This is the sweet spot. Your student has enough life behind them to notice patterns, and enough time ahead to try things before graduation.

Grads and grown-upsAfter high school

Gap year, first semester of college, or a job that doesn't quite fit? Career Direct works here too. For working adults, we gather a bit more information and add a bit more conversation. Reach out and we'll set it up.

Ages 12 to 14

Younger student? Ask about YES!

YES! is a separate assessment built for middle schoolers. It's one 2-hour meeting with me, pointing toward activities, school subjects, and volunteer roles rather than majors and careers. If you'd like more time together afterward, you can add it by the hour.

Ask me about YES!

A few questions I get

Does my student need to prepare?

Nope. Just take the assessment honestly. There are no right answers.

Why does a parent come to the meetings?

You've watched your student longer than anyone. You see things they can't, and they know things you don't. Put those together and you both see more clearly.

Why don't we get the report right away?

The meeting is the fun part. We guess before we look, and students learn more when they get to say "yep, that's me" (or "wait, really?") in the moment. You'll get the full report after meeting two.

In person or online?

Either one. In person around the Twin Cities, or on Zoom from anywhere.

Can this count toward homeschool credit?

Yes. Career Direct makes a strong first step in a career exploration elective. Grab my free credit template, or take a look at Career Explorations, the half-credit course that opens Nov 9.

I bought the Career Explorations course. Does that count toward this?

Yes. Reach out before you pay, and I'll send you a link with your course price already taken off the $300. That's good for one year after you bought it.

I run a co-op or a youth group.

I'd love to speak with your students or your student leaders. Tell me what you've got going.

Choose Your Own Adventure. No, really.
